Teams from YEAR 3 of The Wedding Crasher's Tour have taken their designs & presentations up another notch! Each year, teams of vendors partner with three distinct event venues and transform their spaces into mock wedding ceremonies and receptions. Attendees and VIPs attend each location as a wedding "guest" to enjoy, gain inspiration & network with these talented vendors.
How exciting to kick off the 2017 highlights with the newly renovated Hilton Downtown Richmond. This grand hotel is "housed in the former Miller & Rhoads department store, an iconic building with over 100 years of history and spans an entire city block while boasting original features including marble floors and high ceilings."
Take a peek now at the gorgeous imagery captured by David Abel, owner of David Abel Photography. As a wedding photographer with over 10 years experience, David "fell in love with documenting the stories of hopeless romantics like himself, people who believe that “I DO” and “for better or worse” hold meaning, and that love really does conquer all." We think you'll also fall in love with how beautifully David captures the feel and ambiance of Team Hilton!
The Hilton was transformed under the design team of Kim Moody Design led by Kim Moody and Honey Armstrong. This tour stop expertly represented our moody backdrop with dramatic lighting by the Lighting Professors and an emphasis on clean lines, modern shapes and the gorgeous oxblood hue that moved throughout their color palette.
Guests were first welcomed by a mock ceremony setting featuring a soft circular seating pattern of clear chairs where our model bride also made her entrance. Our model highlighted a stunning mermaid gown from Annalise Bridal Boutique (located just a few blocks east in Shockoe Bottom) while completing her look with hair and makeup designs by ELLE Style Studio.
After a brief introduction to the wedding vision, guests were escorted into the main ballroom where the full designed reception awaited them complete with vendor introductions on the dance floor and upbeat music by Bill Gilliam of Black Tie Entertainment. The reformed reception seating and cocktail lounge areas featuring the modern designs of AFR were completed with catering and drinks by the Hilton Downtown Richmond. This overall layout provided our guests a glimpse into just how vibrant and dramatic this space can be with the added bold uplighting and elegant draping by Lighting Professors. Soft whimsical florals and greenery by Sneeds Nursery offered a gorgeous contrast to these bold lines and lighting backdrops.
Another fun reception accent is always the cake. Amanda Robinson of Sweet Fix featured not only one, but three faux cakes designed to mimic the three dimensional geometric shapes found throughout the overall decor pieces. In addition, Sweet Fix created a sweets table where guests were able to sample french macarons, cake shooters and mini delectable desserts. Gorgeous stencil lighting design by the Lighting Professors created a pathway right into the sweets area!
Finally the table settings helped our couples visualize seating, centerpiece accents and how the stationery can flow right from invitations onto the reception table. Place settings and menu stationery by Carly Reed Designs adorned each table setting and beverage/food stations while playing perfectly to the modern and geometric theme.
Congratulations Team Hilton on a gorgeous transformation, exciting design and lighting ideas for our couples hoping to infuse that extra drama into their evenings as well as provide a fresh new look at this historic venue!
